MicroSourcing donates Php510,873.30 to SolarSolutions Inc. to provide free, renewable energy to communities affected by Typhoon Yolanda. The donation is from the Php3M Yolanda Fund pooled together by MicroSourcing employees, clients, and the shareholders' match.
Last February 4, the fund was officially turned over to SolarSolutions representative, Raffy Concepcion. The resources will go to solar-powered water filtration systems, charging stations, solar energy for a health clinic, and the development of portable solar-powered kits.
The solar-powered charging and water stations will benefit about 10,000 families in Culion, Samar, and Leyte.
Families in devastated Visayas currently spend 30% their income, Php280/week, to charge their mobile phones and flashlights (source: Rappler.com). Solar energy systems will address these needs in the most sustainable and cost-efficient way possible.
"It is an excellent and very practical decision to choose Solar Solutions as one of the beneficiaries of the Yolanda Drive. Solar energy is a long-term solution for a basic and immediate need," said Melissa Matibag, HR Engagement Officer of MicroSourcing.
In the next two months, MicroSourcing will join SolarSolutions in the installation of solar panels around the Visayas region.
