MicroSourcing Volunteers Play Santa for Payatas Scholars"Christmas is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it's Christmas." - Dale Evans Rogers

MicroSourcing grants wishes of 245 talented student scholars

MicroSourcing volunteers take on Santa's role and granted 245 wishes of talented student scholars from Payatas Orione Foundation on Christmas 2013.

The special campaign of Playing Santa started with a simple game. The Rules of Playing Santa:

  • Christmas wishes of student scholars aged 6 to 21 were hung at Christmas trees in all MicroSourcing office sites. Employees as Santa picked a wish.
  • Santa Volunteers shopped for presents and left them under the Christmas tree.
  • Volunteers gave away all gifts to happy children in a Christmas party at Payatas, Quezon City on the morning of December 21.

MicroSourcing Volunteers Play Santa for Payatas Scholars On the day of the Christmas Party, 34 volunteers organized games and performances for the student scholars. Games of "Bring Me" and "Sing it!" opened the program, kids sang to the tune of pop songs, Price Tag, Firework, and Jingle Bells.

Performances by volunteers, student cholars, and Payatas Orione staff hyped up the Christmas party. Starting with magicians Angel Castro and Josef Ernesto, magic tricks filled audiences with amazement, laughter, and pure joy. This was followed by dance numbers from Careers Program interns and elementary and high school scholars that spread upbeat energy throughout the covered courts. For more holiday cheer, Payatas Orione staff and kids closed the program with a chorus of Christmas songs.

All scholars received gifts from volunteer Santas which meant over 200 wishes coming true: a pink teddy bear, a doll house, rubber shoes, school supplies, shirts, pants, and dresses, a barbie doll, and one of our favorites, a hoola hoop. A mother shares her daughter’s hoola hoop story, "Angel has always wanted a hoola hoop. I found one in the trash and fixed it but its owner got it back when they saw it mended. My daughter really wanted a hoola hoop for Christmas, so thank you very much for this." Happy kids and overjoyed mothers thanked MicroSourcing volunteers for Christmas love in action.

MicroSourcing volunteer Zaldy Danao shared his experience, "I am so grateful for the Christmas party. It was wonderful to see other people happy. The community's joy doubled mine and it was just impossible not to feel Christmas." Zaldy works in MicroSourcing as an intern for the Careers Program. He is from the same community as the scholars, his sister Gizelle being a scholar herself.

A representative of Payatas Orione, Shiela Mira, spoke words of gratitude for the volunteers. "Thank you so much to all the Santas of the scholars! The children and the high school and college scholars are very happy. They received so much more than what they had expected. They are overjoyed and we are so happy for them. Merry Christmas to all of you!" Shiela is the organization’s Computer Literacy Training Program Officer. She is also a regular tutor of the scholars.

If Christmas is love in action, playing Santa was the best way to celebrate Christmas.
