Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co (PLDT), the largest telecommunications company in the country, recently announced that it has finalized a service expansion program worth P1 billion for the growing business process outsourcing (BPO) industry of the Philippines.
The telco giant struck a deal with Cisco for the upgrade and reinforcement of its core network. As for the international network upgrades, they partnered with Ciena, a network systems specialist.
According to the Executive Vice-president and head of Enterprise, International and Carrier Business Group of PLDT, Ernesto Alberto, they want to provide an unremitting support to multi-media heavy enterprises that need social networking, video streaming, and advanced applications for their business.
He also stressed that PLDT’s upgrades would be advantageous to industries that rely on international connectivity such as the country’s BPO and banking and finance industries.
He added that their efforts in the telco industry have contributed to the growth and sustainability of the Philippines as a business hub for investors.
In line with that, the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) aims to reach $25 billion dollars in revenues for 2016.
