Investors and companies in the Philippines were encouraged to expand business process outsourcing (BPO) operations in key sites outside Metro Manila.
In the 3rd National ICT Summit in L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City, ICT Cyberservices Group head Ivan John Enrile Uy said the common goal is to promote the country as the global IT-BPO location of choice, and they are preparing the cities and regions outside Metro Manila area to become more attractive to investors. By expanding operations in other key sites, opportunities for economic growth will be spread out and not concentrated only in Metro Manila. This will also capitalize on skilled talent available in other areas. Uy added that about 20 percent of the country’s outsourcing industry is located in sites outside Metro Manila and Cebu, and this is expected to increase.
Bacolod City ranked third in the Top 10 Next Wave Cities for 2010. Acting Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said the city currently has 14 IT parks and buildings, and is considered as the BPO hub of the Western Visayas Region.
