As part of the efforts to stay competitive, enterprise customers are expressing interest in using mobile business applications, a trend thatís gaining attention in outsourcing discussions.
"With the advent of PDAs and mobile devices, people are seeing that this is yet another way to get ahead of their competitors," said Sury Kant, president of New York-based Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Ltd. North America.
With mobile business apps, companies can take their enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to smartphones and people can get the information they need and make decisions anytime, anywhere.
Meanwhile, Steve Hall, a partner and managing director at Woodlands, Texas-based global sourcing advisory firm TPI Inc., said a major concern would be finding a provider that has adequate understanding of a companyís enterprise data, requiring deep domain and business knowledge. He added that while using mobile business apps is a strong trend, it remains under the radar ďbecause of the overload of press on cloud computing these days."
