Study Shows BPO Workers’ Eating Habits, High Caffeine & Alcohol Intake

A study conducted by the University of the Philippines (UP) Population Institute reveals that many BPO workers in the country do not regularly eat three meals daily and they consume a lot of fast food items, coffee, and alcohol.

The survey entitled “Lifestyle and Reproductive Health Issues of Young Professionals in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu” shows only 47 percent of call center workers regularly eat three meals daily, with female workers getting a higher percentage of those who skip meals. Also, BPO workers regularly eat fried chicken (78 percent), chips (54 percent), fries (53 percent), and burgers (49 percent).

When it comes to caffeine intake, two-thirds of survey respondents drink coffee on a daily basis - call center workers drink 2.3 cups, while non-call center employees drink 1.7 cups daily.

Instead of going to parties and other gimmicks, the study reveals that BPO workers prefer to go drinking. Seventy-two percent of call center workers and 51 percent of non-call center workers said it is their most common leisure activity.
