Davao City Sees BPO Potential in Chat Nursing

by: Karen Cayamanda

Monday, April 12, 2010 | Outsourcing News |

ICT players in Davao City are eyeing the chat nursing industry, saying that this will be beneficial for nurses and nursing graduates in the city. Chat nurses are responsible for providing health-related customer support. Individuals can just call through a health desk call center for medical advice or general assessment instead of going to a hospital. With chat nursing, big companies are able to lower employee health costs.

While several things still need to be considered such as looking for a business model suitable for chat nursing and the kind of certification for chat nurses, Lisabel Holganza, President of ICT Davao, said that chat nursing has huge potential. She added that some firms are already discussing the business.

On the other hand, Holganza said that the medical transcription industry will benefit from the US healthcare reform as this will result to more work that can be outsourced. This includes medical coding and billing and insurance processing.
