Business executives from 13 countries said underinvestment in IT had taken its toll on company operations during the global financial crisis. This may be a reason why there is a need for IT outsourcing.

In an Enterprise Intelligence survey by BT Global Services, 61 percent of CIOs and 63 percent of senior executives said ageing IT infrastructure hindered them to “think globally”. Also, 25 percent of business leaders said lack of enough funds for technology had negatively affected innovation while 23 percent said this prevented them from getting new deals.

"This research … should act as a call to action on key issues such as the role IT plays in driving global business success. The research also highlights that, in the current climate, CIOs face key decisions about how they approach the upturn," said Hanif Lalani, CEO of BT Global Services.
