When global growth exposes an operating-model gap

When customers operate across multiple regions, the challenge is not simply hiring more people, but ensuring the operating model can provide the right support when clients need it. Envestnet addressed this by extending its existing operation in a controlled way, enabling international coverage while maintaining service quality and managing costs.

Design coverage around the client
Global service models need to reflect when clients are active—not only where the business is headquartered. Envestnet used the time-zone difference to extend the availability of its Revenue Manager support operation without relying entirely on hard-to-fill U.S. off-hours positions.
Build confidence before scale
Envestnet was able to begin with a small team and expand when the experience justified it. Maintaining control over candidate selection and interviewing helped the company build confidence in each appointment before widening the operation.
Integrate capability, not just capacity
The Manila employees were trained directly by Envestnet in the same product knowledge, standards and working practices used onshore. Shared meetings and close collaboration helped the two locations operate as one team rather than as separate delivery groups.

The transformation is visible in continuity, capability and scale

The significance of Envestnet’s offshore operation is not simply that the team became larger. It is that the business added specialist capabilities while preserving knowledge, stability and integration.
From two employees to nine
Envestnet expanded progressively from two employees to five, seven and then nine, increasing the team at a pace aligned with its operational confidence and requirements.
Three core business functions
The Manila team now contributes across client services, quality assurance and delivery, supporting client enquiries, software-release quality and new-client onboarding.
100% staff retention
The operation expanded into technical support, real-time workforce management, quality assurance, training, team leadership and service delivery.
An ongoing partnership since 2021
What began as a targeted response to a coverage problem has developed into an established part of Envestnet’s operating model, with nine employees across multiple support areas.

FAQs Section

When should a business consider offshore support for global client coverage?
Offshore support may be worth considering when client demand increasingly falls outside the working hours of the existing team, particularly when local off-hours positions are difficult or costly to staff. Envestnet explored the model after international growth created a persistent mismatch between client time zones and U.S. office hours.
