Firms Need to Align Goals with Technology, Says Gartner

The Gartner Sourcing & Strategic Supplier Relationships Summit 2015 by IT research and advisory firm Gartner was launched as it highlighted that this year, it would be about digital business.

Helen Huntley, an analyst at Gartner, explained that digital business is rapidly taking over and will continue to grow in the coming years. In 2014, CIOs revealed that 22 percent of revenues were generated by digital products and services - and could grow by 41 percent by 2019. CIOs will be the main players as they will be the ones who will see to it that the integration process is done correctly.

However, it was discovered that though the IT department and IT executives play a major role during the integration and development of new IT schemes, they have limited access to the budget. Gartner released a report indicating that this year, 38 percent of the total IT spend will fall under the control of the business, and will increase to 50 percent in 2019.

In addition to not having control over the budget, IT executives have to trust a different entity for the development. It was found that only 15 percent of CIOs expect that digital business development be done in-house. Huntley said amidst being singled out in almost all processes, CIOs will have their turn to shine this year because IT is alive in all digital businesses.
