Earlier last month, MicroMissions launched Back-to-School: A MicroMissions Fundraiser to kick off the start of the 2015 school year. MicroMissions is humbled by the unrelenting support that we receive from employees. This year, our fruitful campaign raised 266 school supply kits for elementary and college scholars from Payatas Orione Foundation. The gratitude was evident in the smiles of the scholars who received their school supplies at the Back-to-School Party in Payatas, Quezon City last Saturday, May 30.
CSR Officer Ida Mandinyenya was joined by an enthusiastic team of volunteers and headed off to Payatas for a morning of entertainment and pleasure. We felt truly appreciated and were delighted upon our arrival to watch the scholars sing and dance. Elementary scholars entertained MicroSourcing volunteers to Ricky Martin ballroom dancing, and some of the older scholars sang Ang Pipit. Their costumes were beautifully made and everything was well thought out.
MicroSourcing volunteers had lots of entertainment prepared for the rest of the morning. The charismatic in-house fairy, Kariktan Mingoa from Eastwood Operations, led the group to different games including Bring Me and Pass the Bouquet. The children loved this moment, especially because we had candy prizes to offer. It was evident that the young scholars were determined to win; thankfully, MicroSourcing volunteers had prepared consolation prizes!
The surprise list was definitely longer than the scholars had anticipated. Angelito Castro from MicroCreatives, together with his friend Ernest the Magician, amused the children with some outstanding magic tricks.
MicroMissions thanks all MicroSourcing volunteers for their hard work that helped make this event a success. A lot of work and volunteer hours were put into organizing the school supply donations across Manila-based sites. A special thank you goes to MS Café for donating 310 cheeseburgers to MicroMissions for the event. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved and are touched by your generosity.
We intend to build stronger ties with Payatas Orione Foundation as we join them in their quest to deliver education to children living in underprivileged communities. This year, MicroMissions will sponsor the education of 10 incoming 1st Year College scholars from Payatas Orione Foundation. By investing in education, we believe we are unlocking the potential of young people from impoverished backgrounds, by giving them a chance to earn a fair wage in a workplace that will give them a voice to demand better prospects for personal and social development, to ultimately live their lives as productive members of society. Education is a basic human right and we dream to see people empowered to make decisions that affect their lives without being constrained by the lack of it.
