"We have never seen the scholars so happy, even their moms and our staff celebrated." - Shiela Mira of Payatas Orione Foundation
MicroSourcing kept tradition and played Santa, granting the wishes of 293 public school scholars from Payatas Orione Foundation and A-B-C Foundation this Christmas.
At the start of December, all scholars wrote Santa and wished for a toy, new clothes, shoes, books or stuff for school. Wishes were hung in Christmas trees across MicroSourcing's five Manila sites. In two weeks, employees and their family and friends shopped for presents until all 293 scholars gained a wish granted.
Volunteers distributed the presents at a Christmas party with the scholars in Payatas, Quezon City last December 20, Saturday. All 36 volunteers and over 200 scholars got to know each other through games, performances, and a meal shared. Kids were also entertained by an interactive, comical magic show by Anthony and a puppet show from Henry.
During gift giving, volunteers watched their sponsored scholars delight in their presents. "I saw Cielo Jean wear her new Hello Kitty backpack. It made her really happy; she never took it off for the rest of the party," a MicroSourcing volunteer shared. Among the scholars, Mark Dave, said he has long been dreaming of owning a watch.
"In Playing Santa, we celebrated the joy of Christmas giving. The scholars asked for simple things and when Santa volunteers went out of their way to shop for a nice pair of sneakers or a remote control car or a dress for the holidays, and scholars received them like a dream come true, connections were made and Christmas love was felt by all," said Geo Corneby from MicroMissions about the program.
The party closed with a prayer and well wishes from scholar Alyssa Mae Mejia. MicroMissions and Payatas Orione closed their third year of partnership and looked forward to another year of working together to support accessible quality education.
MicroSourcing is grateful to the 293 volunteers who played Santa, the 36 volunteers who hosted a successful Christmas party at Payatas, staff of Payatas Orione Foundation, and the 293 scholars who continued to defy circumstances and excelled at school all year long.
