"The whole event was heart-melting," shared Ola Arcala.
MicroSourcing volunteers organized a Back-to-School Party to give gifts of PE shoes, lunch containers, and raincoats from employee donations to 250 deserving scholars. Excited for the party, scholars of Payatas Orione Foundation gathered at Mother of Divine Parish in Payatas, Quezon City to welcome 24 volunteers on June 7, Saturday.
The day started with all-time favorite games and activities. Hosts Mariel Cordero and Kari Mingoa led a song of "Paa, Tuhod, Balikat, Ulo" and to add variation, the children sang in laughter and pretend tears and fury. Games of Bring Me, a thrilling caterpillar relay, guessing game Pinoy Henyo, and the physical feat newspaper dance followed with volunteers and kids cheering for their teammates. "The games allowed us to easily interact with the children. This is among my favorite things about the event," said MJ Erispe.
In the course of the party, volunteers went all out in building relationships with the scholars. "I was in a team with Grade 5 students. I liked that we were grouped this way. It gave us the chance to get to know the children better," shared Kaiku Alejo.
The most-awaited gift distribution is the highpoint of the event. Volunteers distributed back-to-school packages with PE shoes, raincoats, and lunch containers to their assigned scholars from grade 1 to grade 10. "I saw children hugging their new shoes in boxes or even in simple plastic bags. It was a very touching sight," said Arvin Chuatoco. Overjoyed and in big smiles, all 250 scholars raised their sneakers high up for a photo with the volunteers.
Payatas Orione Foundation awarded MicroSourcing with a certificate of appreciation. Executive Director Fr. Julio Cuesta acknowledged all donors’ example of joyful giving. "I see that bringing joy to children makes you happy." In a conversation with a volunteer, he added, "I know this isn’t your first time here. We’ve seen you five times in the past year. You have done so much for the community. We will always be here and we look forward to seeing you again."
MicroSourcing rallied for donations in the campaign All Hands on Deck: A Back-to-School Project. A total of 711 employee donors and 28 package sponsors raised Php161,400.00 for the scholars.
