The Department of Science and Technology-Information and Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICTO), along with the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (ITBPAP), once again recognized Davao City as the leading "Next Wave City" for outsourcing operations.
According to the region’s key promoter, the ICT Council of Davao, the location possesses attributes such as skilled workforce, cost-effective business solutions, government incentives for locators, and peace and security which investors are looking for. Moreover, it is expected to produce over 13,000 graduates next year from 46 local colleges - 14 of which have high levels of accreditation.
Davao’s outsourcing industry currently has 20,000 full-time employees. In addition to that, its ICT sector is working on developing and improving high-valued services like software development, animation, and medical transcription.
Other Next Wave Cities identified are Iloilo City, Baguio City, Dumaguete City, Lipa City, Metro Bulacan, Metro Cavite, Metro Naga, Metro Laguna, and Metro Rizal. Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, and Metro Clark are still identified as the Center of Excellence, with Bacolod City joining the roster.
