The $400 million South-East Asia Japan Cable (SJC) submarine cable system of Globe Telecom Inc. is anticipated to be advantageous for two of the major sectors of the Philippines, the information and communication technology (ICT) and business process outsourcing (BPO).

According to Globe Telecom Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, the SJC system will reinforce the competitiveness of the Philippines and stay as a key player alongside its technology-advanced counterparts around the world.

Zobel noted that the 36.1 million subscribers of Globe will also benefit from the system upgrade, though the ICT and BPO sectors are identified as the basic beneficiaries of this improvement. These employ 700,000 Filipinos and account for $25 billion in revenues.

President Benigno Aquino III was present at the launch of the SJC system which was held at Globeís new Php8-billion tower in Bonifacio Global City.
