MicroSourcing CEO Philip Kooijman, the grand champion in the leading telecom company PLDT’s ALPHA Royale Charity Poker Tournament, recently turned over his prize worth Php200,000 to his chosen charity, the Dynamic Teen Company (DTC).
DTC, a non-profit organization that caters to the needs of underprivileged students, is headed by Efren Peñaflorida, CNN 2009 Hero of the Year. One of DTC’s transformational programs is the "Kariton Klasrum", which aims to help kids get better education and keep them from street delinquency.
"I chose The Dynamic Teen Company to be the recipient of the grand prize because it also fits most of our company’s programs and it’s an advocacy that we truly believed in," said Mr. Kooijman. "Our company also has a similar program where we invest in disenfranchised youth and take them into our company. We provide them with a six-month training program and internship with our clients and try to make sure they get employment opportunities. I felt that it would be a good way of investing in something we also believe in."
Mr. Peñaflorida thanked Mr. Kooijman and PLDT for recognizing the efforts of DTC in helping students who are in need. "This donation will definitely go a long way in supporting the education of underprivileged children," he said.
