An official at the US Embassy in Manila recently said there had been more Filipino businessmen and tourists travelling to the US for the past couple of years, noting that the bullish economy of the Philippines is propelling the increase.
During the recent launch of the Workshop on Temporary Non-Immigrant Worker Visas at the Hyatt Hotel in Manila, Consul General Michael Schimmel said numerous business visa applications are from Filipino individuals who are employed at the BPO, IT, and customer service industries and are sent to the US for training.
Moreover, he said the number of Filipino tourists in the US continues to grow and the average daily volume of US visa application reaches 1,400 and majority are for business and tourist requests.
The number of Filipinos who are applying for US visa increased by 22 percent from 2011 to 2012.
Consul General Schimmel added that the US government welcomes tourists from the Philippines as they are helping the US economy recover from the global economic depression.
