According to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), there are numerous available positions in local call center companies, but only a few applicants make the cut.
DOST noted that fresh graduates are now flocking to call centers and other BPO firms, with the attractive proposition of high wages, bonuses, and benefits.
DOST shared a study done by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) where it states that only five out of 100 applicants are able to endure the challenging industry.
In line with that, DOST Secretary Mario Go Montejo advised that Filipino job applicants should keep up with the demands of the industry and make themselves more competitive. Moreover, he said the country needs to produce "smarter people" who are able to persevere and improve skills that are commonly sought after in this day and age.
They are hoping to achieve this with the DOSTís "Smarter Philippines" campaign, which is aimed at improving services in all sectors. The Smarter Government, Smarter Economy, Smarter Mobility, Smarter Environment, Smarter Living, and Smarter Cities programs are all part of the Smarter Philippines program.
