In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, MicroSourcing raised a total of Php216,924 for the victims of Typhoon Pablo, a super typhoon that hit the southern Philippine island of Mindanao and led to over 1,000 deaths and over 970,000 people with destroyed homes.
The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of MicroSourcing launched the Typhoon Pablo Donation Drive on December 2012, encouraging all employees to donate cash as well as food, medicine, and hygiene products to support families in Mindanao affected by the recent typhoon. In a span of less than one month, MicroSourcing employees raised over Php100,000 in cash, grocery products with an estimated value of Php14,275, and seven boxes of clothing. MicroSourcing matched cash and in-kind donations, making up the sum of over Php200,000 to be donated to Habitat for Humanity. These resources will contribute to Habitat’s Ayos Bahay Challenge that focuses on addressing the needs of Filipinos affected by natural calamities.
MicroSourcing is glad to offer support to Filipinos whose lives were derailed by the damages caused by the typhoon. The monetary donation will be used to purchase shelter repair kits, composed of construction materials and tools to refurbish homes destroyed by the onslaught of Typhoon Pablo. The cash donation will help repair an estimate of 20 homes. In-kind donations, on the other hand, will be made into family packs composed of food and hygiene products which will be distributed to 65 families in Mindanao.
On January 17, MicroSourcing CEO Philip Kooijman and the top donors in the company presented a check of Php216,924 to representatives of Habitat for Humanity - Shera Tanjutco and Gabbie Espinola. Shera and Gabbie shared the vision of Habitat for Humanity and how this is being fulfilled through ongoing operations in Mindanao. After the presentation, certificates of appreciation were awarded to MicroSourcing departments with the largest sum of donations to recognize their contribution. Everyone shared chips and sandwiches to conclude the turnover ceremony.
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization with a mission to build decent housing for less privileged Filipinos. In this effort, MicroSourcing is looking forward to working closely with Habitat for Humanity in the course of 2013.
