MicroSourcing organized a full day’s event called Career Day last September 21 for the participants of Careers for StreetKids, a training program initiative of the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) that aims to provide employment opportunities to underprivileged youth through jobs at business process outsourcing (BPO) companies.
The goal of Career Day was to introduce the participants to the different disciplines in the BPO sector, the workings of a typical BPO company, and the job tools and portals they can utilize in their search for a stable employer. In an effort to help participants better understand the numerous job opportunities in the BPO sector, the Operations team led an office tour where the youth met our clients and employees - data processors and analysts, graphic designers, and call center specialists - and observed their workflow processes.
MicroSourcing's Talent Acquisition team hosted a large part of the seminar. They shared tips on how to excel at interviews and build a winning resume. Part of the whole-day activity was spent going through MicroSourcing's standard screening processes, the participants created accounts in MicroResumes.com (our in-house resume database), took an English assessment test, and were interviewed by Recruitment Specialists. To close the event, volunteer employees shared their personal inspiring stories that led them to secure a stable job in a BPO company, encouraging participants to work hard and persevere in order to reach their own goals.
Career Day was held at two of MicroSourcing office locations: Two-Ecom building at the Mall of Asia Complex that accommodated seven participants, and 1880 Building at Eastwood Cyberpark with 11 participants. MicroSourcing will select 5-10 interns among the group of 18 for a three-month program that will provide the work experience and hard skills training necessary to pursue a longer term BPO job.
