According to a study done by IT consultancy firm Gartner Inc., growth is once again included in the IT outsourcing (ITO) providersí objectives.
Sixty-two percent said growth is their number one goal and they are planning to achieve that by making use of aggressive marketing plans and investments in cloud, utility, and 'as a service' offerings.
Vice-President and distinguished analyst at Gartner, Rolf Jester, said, "It is clear that providers are optimistic despite considerable uncertainty in the global economies. However, we predict the ITO services market will reach USD 313.2 billion in 2011, a growth of 6.9 percent from 2010, and will reach 4.6 percent compound annual growth rate through 2015."
Survey participants, consisting of 47 ITO providers or 62 percent of the total ITO segment, came from all major geographies and all types of ITO services which include infrastructure, cloud services, and applications.
Half of the outsourcing providers who participated said they would allot 2 to 5 percent of their 2011 earnings to marketing, a figure higher than the usual 1 to 3 percent for IT services providers.
