Lack of brand awareness and the fact that German firms do not know where the Philippines is are reasons these companies do not invest in the country, according to the German Chamber of Commerce.
India, not the Philippines, is the top destination that German firms consider as far as business process outsourcing (BPO) is concerned, said Nadine Fund, Business Development Manager of the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (GPCCI).
The Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) said there is a need to tap the UK market, which is estimated at $40 billion, especially since all other BPO destinations are targeting US, the largest market of the Philippine BPO industry.
The GPCCI and the Department of Industry are taking initiatives to establish the brand of the country as a BPO destination in Europe. For instance, the DTI is taking part in corporate events to introduce the Philippines as a destination for business investment.
