Ovum: Asian Governments will Invest in the Cloud this Year
Tuesday, January 11, 2011 |
This year, government agencies in Asia will be embracing the cloud-based approach to service delivery and outsourcing. This is the IT trend in the recent report from global analyst and consulting firm Ovum.
"Asian governments will continue to invest in local cloud computing capabilities to boost the competitiveness of their ICT industries in the region. However Australia stays asleep at the wheel on the need to link the government procurement and industry development agendas", said Dr. Steve Hodgkinson, Research Director.
Jessica Hawkins, Ovum analyst and author of the report, said agencies will be considering the cloud, though they will remain cautious in terms of privacy and security. Also, IT vendors must be able to help agencies in understanding how this technology can help them. While BPO opportunities, shared services, as well as on-demand access will be “more open in 2011 than ever before”, Hawkins said governments should look into how changes in service delivery can bring efficiency, and not just a way to reduce costs.
