The International Outsourcing Summit: Global Market Leaders Addressing Global Issues was held last October 26-27 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza.
Organized by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP), the summit became the appropriate event for addressing global outsourcing issues as the industry faces more complex challenges, as well as to take advantage of new business opportunities and partnerships. In this two-day summit, CEOs and business leaders from the outsourcing industry tackled major global issues in different areas such as health services, business development, banking and finance, marketing, and talent acquisition.
One of the main points discussed was the importance of getting the right talent to meet the demands in the industry. In the academe panel on specialized talent and language acquisition, it was said that talent is what drives the outsourcing industry. According to BPAP’s Executive Director for Talent Development Atty. Jamea Garcia, over 70,000 new BPO jobs were created in the Philippines last year, noting that the country has a large pool of English-speaking talent with competitive salaries. However, the challenges include finding workers who have the right skills for the job, and removing the negative perception that outsourcing or BPO is mainly call center work.
