Out of 206 UK organizations that took part in the survey conducted by Gartner Inc. in the first quarter of 2010, 53 percent said they will outsource more IT processes this year, while 40 percent plan to increase IT spending.
While there is an increase in the number of European firms that spend 50-75 percent of IT budget to service providers, Claudio Da Rold, vice president and analyst at Gartner said there is still pressure on capital and IT operating expenses. “Although 40 percent of respondents said that they will increase the external share of their budget, only 24 percent said that they will increase the budget for providers, and almost a quarter of organizations still expect that their IT services budget will continue to decrease in 2010.”
The survey also shows that there is an increase in the number of organizations that are becoming interested in outsourcing. In 2009, 6.1 percent of organizations with IT budgets of less than €1 million have expressed interest in outsourcing. This year, the survey reveals that the percentage of firms rose to 14.7 percent.
