From $14.8 billion in 2009, the global security software revenue will increase 11 percent to $16.5 billion this year, according to research and advisory firm Gartner.
"Most segments of the security software market will continue to grow over the next few years, although a significant degree of variation is expected between the more-established and less-mature technologies," said principal research analyst Ruggero Contu in a statement. "Overall, security will remain one of the fastest-growing areas within the enterprise software market."
When it comes to security vendors, Contu said those with maintenance and license options, as well as software-as-a-service (SaaS) and outsourcing offerings will have a bright future due to increased competition as a result of lower discretionary budgets.
