According to the 2009 Global Services/Tholons Top 50 Emerging Outsourcing Cities report, the Philippines got the number 2 spot in the list of world’s offshore outsourcing nations. On the city level, the National Capital Region (NCR) was ranked number 4, with India’s Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai securing the top 3 spots.
As the economy recovers from the financial crisis, it is expected that the country’s outsourcing industry will grow by 26 percent this year and will post a total of $9.5 billion in revenue. According to Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) CEO and President Oscar Sanez, the industry had shown strength and resiliency during the crisis. “We are employing 442,000 people, of whom 70,000 entered the workforce in 2009. The industry currently contributes to 5 percent of the Philippines Gross Domestic Product.”
The Philippines accounts for 15 percent of the offshore BPO market. This is less than one-third of the total BPO market share of India.
