Joint Foreign Chambers fight Bill on labor tenure

by: Carlo Abadilla

Wednesday, September 2, 2009 | Outsourcing News |

The Joint Foreign Chambers (JFC) have organized an effort to prevent the induction of House Bill 6532; which seeks, among other things, to place a cap on the number of casual and contractual employees that a company can hire or engage. The JFC believes that by needlessly trying to further secure the tenure of workers, the bill threatens to significantly diminish foreign investments in the Philippines and cause hundreds of thousands to abruptly lose their jobs.

“We regret to advise that House Bill 6532 is counterproductive to the objective of enhancing employment and employability in the Philippines. If passed into law, the bill will discourage investment and businesses and result in the loss of jobs,” claimed the JFC letter addressed to Speaker Prospero Nograles. The letter was signed by heads of respective chambers in the US, Europe, Korea, Canada, Australia-New Zealand, and the Philippine Association of Multinational companies Regional headquarters Inc.
